Happy Ruckusmaker Day!

As declared by marketing genius Seth Godin, this is the First Annual Ruckusmaker Day in honor of Steve Jobs, who would have turned 60 today. I believe in the spirit behind this special day, which is to express your point of view and “to act on it, to live with it.” In Seth Godin’s blog yesterday, he encouraged us all to blog daily on one personal issue that means something to us.

My point of view is that everyone deserves a workspace that helps them do their best work, a place that acknowledges that they bring their whole self to work, and a place that clearly shares how their work is connected to the organization’s greater vision and purpose.

Godin also says that we should “…not only have a point of view, but to change it when the times demanded.” It is safer and easier to say nothing – and having a point of view does expose one to more criticism and ridicule.

I don’t mind creating a ruckus if it leads to a happier and more inspired workplace.

If everyone played it safe, where would we be today? Speak your mind in order to inspire others to do the same.  Create a ruckus!
